HC Deb 14 March 1962 vol 655 c1295
11. Mr. Donnelly

asked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty whether he will now make a statement regarding the future of the Royal Naval Armaments Depot at Newton Noyes, Pembrokeshire.

Mr. C. Ian Orr-Ewing

I am afraid I have at present nothing further to add to the reply I gave the hon. Member last week.

Mr. Donnelly

Is the Civil Lord aware that there have been some unfortunate rumours about this establishment and that quite a lot of workers are involved? Will the Government make a statement as early as possible? Secondly, will he see that, if there are any changes, they will be spaced out over a long period of time?

Mr. Orr-Ewing

I certainly hope that it will be possible for a statement to be made on the whole matter as early as possible. We will certainly look into this question. Should there be a change, we will try to phase it over a long period to see that the least possible disturbance is caused to those employed.
