§ 23. Miss Vickersasked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty what progress is being made by the Fleet Work Study Team; and how much money is likely to be saved as a result of their recommendations.
§ Mr. C. Ian Orr-EwingThe Fleet Work Study Team is showing good results, but it is not possible to measure these entirely in terms of money saved. Some of the studies, for instance, have led to the more efficient use of existing manpower, and others to improved safety arrangements, higher standards of maintenance and longer periods of operational service for ships and equipment.
§ Miss VickersHow many teams are there, and does my hon. Friend think that they are really justified?
§ Mr. Orr-EwingFrom everything I see, I am absolutely certain that they are justified. They are more than paying their way. We have 16 teams in all, and last year they pursued with a successful outcome more than 35 studies of different aspects of naval work.
