HC Deb 27 June 1962 vol 661 c1128
1. Mr. Woodnutt

asked the Secretary of State for Air if he will include the Isle of Wight in the regular publications of recorded sunshine issued by the Meteorological Office.

The Secretary of State for Air (Mr. Julian Amery)

Sunshine figures for places in the Isle of Wight appear regularly in a number of official publications. These include the daily Health Resort Bulletin which gives figures for Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor.

Mr. Woodnutt

Does not my right hon. Friend think that as the hours of sunshine in various towns on the Isle of Wight seaboard are always more than in any other part of the country every year—[HON. MEMBERS: "Oh."]—it would be as well to include them in the official figures which are broadcast? Would it not be as well always to quote our best figures?

Mr. Amery

I did not quite hear the last part of the question.

Mr. Woodnutt

I was asking whether it would not be as well if these figures were included in the meteorological reports which are regularly broadcast?

Mr. Amery

I think that my hon. Friend is referring to the daily weather report. Weather reports in this document, which are in code, are restricted to stations which provide more comprehensive weather reports than are available in the Isle of Wight, but I agree with him in yielding to none in appreciating the high weather content of his island.
