§ 12. Mr. Parkerasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he has been consulted about the proposed burning down of Coldharbour, a farmhouse of some architectural interest near Ampthill, belonging to the Bedford Estates, on 14th July.
§ Mr. RipponThe local planning authority has consulted my right hon. Friend about a notice it has received of intention to demolish the building, which is no longer required for agricultural purposes. It is arranging to inspect it and will let him have a report. It has power to submit a preservation order.
§ Mr. ParkerIs not the proposal to burn down this building in this way one of the more vulgar of the publicity stunts of the Duke of Bedford?
§ Mr. RipponI understand from Press reports that this mock-Nero saturnalia, as it has been called, is not now to take place. Now action remains to be taken, if necessary, by the county council in the first instance.
