HC Deb 26 July 1962 vol 663 cc1714-5
16. Mr. Darling

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will now introduce a Weights and Measures Bill.

Mr. Erroll

I hope that the hon. Member will hear something about the Government's intentions on this matter later today.

Mr. Darling

Does the right hon. Gentelman realise that 11 years have elapsed since the Hodgson Committee suggested and urgently appealed for a new Weights and Measures Act? Does he realise that this is the third Parliamentary Session in which the Government have faulted to carry out their promises? If it is the intention of the Prime Minister to give further undertakings this afternoon, will not the right hon. Gentleman agree that those undertakings ought to toe measured against this incredibly bad record of broken promises?

Mr. Erroll

I think the hon. Gentleman will be able to decide for himself in the light of what may be said later today.
