New Clause A.—(Payments at entertainments NOT HELD FOR PRIVATE GAIN.)

Lords Amendment: In page 2, line 25, at end insert:

NEW CLAUSE A

A. In sub-paragraph (ii) of paragraph (b) of section twenty of the Betting and Gaming Act, 1960 (which provides that, in relation to gaming to which that section applies, section sixteen of that Act shall have effect as if for the condition set out in paragraph (c) of subsection (1) thereof there were substituted the conditions set out in subsection (1) of section four of the Small Lotteries and Gaming Act, 1956) for the words "the condition set out in paragraph (c)" there shall be substituted the words "the conditions set out in paragraphs (b) and (c)".

Read a Second time.

Motion made, and Question proposed, That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said Amendment.

Mr. Eric Fletcher (Islington, East)

This seems to be quite a substantial Amendment. I should not have thought this House ought to have agreed to it without some explanation of what it means.

Mr. John C. Bidgood (Bury and Radcliffe)

I am very happy to give the hon. Gentleman the explanation that he requires.

Very simply, it was discovered that there was an error in the Betting and Gaming Act, 1960. In other words, paragraph (b) should have been superimposed for paragraph (c). This was drawn to my notice and to that of my noble Friend in another place, and we thought that this would be a suitable opportunity of remedying that error.

Question put and agreed to.
