HC Deb 26 July 1962 vol 663 cc1699-700
1. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the President of the Board of Trade to what extent the circulation of the Board of Trade Journal has increased since the improvements were introduced.

The President of the Board of Trade (Mr. F. J. Erroll)

Despite the improvements which have been made, I am sorry to say that the circulation of the Journal has in the past year slightly fallen.

Mr. Ellis Smith

The Journal is a specialised document, and that is understandable. But now that great improvements have been introduced, and because also it is not only of a technical but of an informative nature, should not steps be taken to make it better known among those who would benefit from it?

Mr. Erroll

Yes, we are taking these steps and have a direct mail campaign in progress at the moment. I think that one reason for the fall in circulation is the fact that we used to keep titbits of information for the Journal which we now release to the Press without waiting to keep them for the Journal.
