HC Deb 26 July 1962 vol 663 cc1702-3
4. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps he has taken during the last two months to promote the building in Aberdeen of advance factories.

Mr. Erroll

None, Sir. I am at the moment considering whether more advance factories should be built, however.

Mr. Hughes

Does the Minister realise that he has given that kind of answer for months past and that nothing has come of his consideration? Does he realise that there is urgent need for advance factories in Aberdeen and that there are plenty of sites and space? Will he now give up considering and take urgent steps to remedy this injustice?

Mr. Erroll

There are a number of places elsewhere in Scotland where the need is greater.

Lady Tweedsmuir

In view of the fact that my right hon. Friend said the other day that he would establish a factory— or, rather, an industrial site—in the north-east of Scotland to serve the whole of that area, can he say whether it will be near enough to be of any use to the unemployed of Aberdeen?

Mr. Erroll

No, Six. I could not so say yet.
