§ 30. Mr. Emeryasked the Minister of Labour how many apprentices have been made redundant during each of the last three years; and what action is taken to ensure that they can complete their apprenticeship.
§ Mr. HareWhen such cases occur, the employment exchange and the Youth Employment Service co-operate with the interested parties to place the apprentice with another employer with whom he can complete his indentures. Statistics are not kept, but very few cases of difficulty are reported to my Department.
§ Mr. EmeryCan my right hon. Friend make known the procedure for this exchange of apprenticeship in the Reading area because, in the lay-off referred to in the previous Question, a number of apprentices are affected and it is essential that they should be given every opportunity to complete their apprenticeships with other indentures?
§ Mr. HareI shall certainly see that that is done; and, in particular, that the youth employment officer is made 1338 aware of the point my hon. Friend has just made.
