HC Deb 24 January 1962 vol 652 c184
14. Dr. Dickson Mabon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much money has been spent in the current financial year to the nearest convenient date on hospital building in Scotland.

Mr. Galbraith

The provisional figure for the total cash payments on capital account by regional hospital boards to 31st October, 1961, is £1,885,000.

Dr. Mahon

Why is it not possible for Scottish Members to read a progress report comparable to that published yesterday by the Minister in charge of the service in England and Wales? Is it because the gulf between promise and performance is even more appalling, or is it because it shows more clearly the fact that we ought to be getting twice the amount of building, either in terms of money or of the speed at which it is built, to meet the amount of money brought in by the increased health charges which have been operative since February last?

Mr. Galbraith

I do not think that the hon. Member's supplementary question in any way arises out of his original Question, nor are his deductions in any way accurate.
