HC Deb 15 February 1962 vol 653 c1505
19. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what was the cause of the recent disturbances at a secondary school in Aden when the director of education was beaten and his car burnt; and whether the boys' and girls' college is to be closed.

Mr. Maudling

The Aden Government are investigating the circumstances which have led to trouble at the Aden Girls' College and have set up a committee of parents' representatives and experts to consider the complaints.

Mr. Sorensen

Is it not true that a procession of young people denouncing somebody responsible for the closing of these colleges passed through Aden recently? In any inquiry which is to be made, will the right hon. Gentleman make sure that the basic cause of this unfortunate difficulty is examined?

Mr. Maudling

That is the point of the inquiry.

Mr. Sorensen

Is a report likely to be published?
