HC Deb 07 February 1962 vol 653 c414
22. Mr. Stodart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland on what date he intends to prohibit parking on the A.8 road between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Mr. Maclay

As soon as the necessary signs can be erected. Delivery is expected in the next few days and the no-waiting Order should be in force later this month.

Mr. Stodart

Is my right hon. Friend aware that to get these signs up has taken, I think, over a year since this question was first raised, and that motorists will welcome the erection of them after waiting so patiently for them?

Mr. Maclay

I have some sympathy with my hon. Friend's comments, but the fact is that the democratic procedures which we invariably follow in the Scottish Office in such matters do take a considerable time to implement.
