HC Deb 01 February 1962 vol 652 cc1285-6
Q2. Mr. P. Noel-Baker

asked the Prime Minister what arrangements he has made to meet the Secretary-General of the United Nations during his forthcoming visit to New York to address the annual dinner of the American Publishers' Association.

The Prime Minister

I am looking forward with pleasure to meeting U Thant when I go to New York in April.

Mr. Noel-Baker

In view of the recent regrettable speech by the Foreign Secretary, will the Prime Minister take the opportunity to renew to the Secretary-General the pledge in the Queen's Speech that the Government will give resolute support to the United Nations, and tell him that they think it essential for the future of the world that its authority should be sustained?

The Prime Minister

I do not, of course, accept anything which the right hon. Gentleman said in criticism of my noble Friend. It seems to me that he is anticipating the speech which, no doubt, he will deliver on Monday.
