HC Deb 17 December 1962 vol 669 c869
62. Mr. E. L. Mallalieu

asked the Minister of Health what is the increase in the number of those awaiting hospital treatment now and a year ago in the Sheffield region; and what is the difference between the number of nursing staff employed in the region now and then.

Mr. Braine

Waiting lists in this region decreased by over 2,300 in the year ended 30th September, 1962; nurses increased by over 1,000 whole-time equivalent.

Mr. Mallalieu

Is the hon. Gentleman then satisfied that there is sufficient nursing staff to deal with the urgent cases in this region?

Mr. Braine

Certainly not, but, as the figures I have just given indicate, staffs are increasing rapidly.
