HC Deb 17 December 1962 vol 669 cc882-3
54. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Minister of Health what recognition is given to audiology technicians who have gained the diploma of their profession; and what steps he is taking to encourage all audiology technicians to become qualified.

Mr. Braine

None, Sir. Hospital authorities have been advised to provide training on a recommended syllabus.

Mr. Pavitt

In view of the importance of these technicians undertaking the whole range of the duties falling within their province, and the way they have organised their profession so as to award a diploma, would it not be advisable for the Ministry to give recognition to encourage more probationer technicians to become the expert, qualified people the service needs?

Mr. Braine

The Department has advised all employing authorities to give training in accordance with an outline syllabus that has been drawn up after consultation, and I think that that is where we can leave it.
