asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will give an assurance that the present policy for dealing with fowl pest will not be discarded until a workable scheme has been agreed with the poultry industry to carry forward the vaccination programme recommended by the Plant Committee, with compensation for the slaughter of diseased stock on terms acceptable to the industry.

My right hon. Friend and his right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland are now in consultation with the poultry industry on the Report of the Plant Committee and they wish to make progress with their consultations with the industry and others concerned before coming to any conclusions on future policy.
