HC Deb 11 April 1962 vol 657 c1307
41. Sir W. Wakefield

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of his recent statement regarding trunk road schemes which he hopes to authorise up to five years ahead, he will extend the period for announcing classified schemes under the rolling programme to five years also.

Mr. Marples

Experience so far has shown that, in general, a three-year programme of classified roads is as much as it is desirable or feasible to arrange. But I will certainly be prepared to consider my hon. Friend's suggestion.

Sir W. Wakefield

Is my right hon. Friend aware that I am very grateful indeed for that Answer? I hope that he will be in a position to give a decision at a fairly early date.

Mr. Marples

Yes, but I would warn my hon. Friend that the procedure for trunk roads is longer than that for classified roads. But I shall certainly bear his suggestion in mind.
