§ 32. Mr. Martenasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will take action on tax-free incomes arising from toll bridges.
§ Sir E. BoyleI cannot anticipate my right hon. Friend's Budget statement.
§ Mr. MartenNevertheless, does my hon. Friend realise that many of these incomes from toll bridges are not only tax-free but also free of rates and death duties? Would he look at this and take some appropriate action when he can?
§ Sir E. BoyleI have taken notice of my hon. Friend's recent representations on this matter. Of course, there is no exemption from tax for the profits of the toll bridges generally, although in a few cases special exemption is conferred by long-standing enactments.
