§ 21. Dr. Kingasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the total expenditure of Government Departments on advertising in commercial television.
§ Sir E. BoyleThe total expenditure from the outset in 1957 up to the end of December, 1961, was £775,910.
§ Dr. KingIs the Financial Secretary aware that this money could be shared between the Exchequer and the B.B.C. if the Chancellor of the Exchequer would get in touch with the B.B.C. with a view to making important Government announcements over the B.B.C. radio and television? Would not such an arrangement benefit both the Exchequer and the B.B.C.?
§ Sir E. BoyleIf the hon. Gentleman would like to make representations, I should be glad to discuss this with him. From the Government's point of view, the important and essential thing is to get value for money, and we believe that on the whole we have achieved this.
