§ Q3. Mr. Emrys Hughesasked the Prime Minister whether the speech by the Minister of Defence at Winchester on 5th November, on the call-up of reservists, represents the policy of Her Majesty's Government.
§ The Prime MinisterYes, Sir.
§ Mr. Emrys HughesCan the Prime Minister tell the House exactly how much all this call-up of reservists and retaining of National Service men in the Army is likely to cost?
§ The Prime MinisterI was asked whether I agreed with the speech of my right hon. Friend. He summarised the measures which, as he and I explained fully to the House recently, the Government have decided to take in order to strengthen the Army quickly in case of need. But the full details of these proposals will, of course, be discussed when the Bill is debated.
§ Sir Richard PilkingtonIs it not very revealing that so many hon. Members opposite seem to think that it is normal practice for Ministers to make statements not in conformity with Government policy?
