§ Mr. C. Ian Orr-EwingWe are considering whether to modernise the Royal Marines Barracks at Stonehouse in order to provide accommodation which could be used in the Admiralty's plans for re-deployment of the Royal Marine Commandos.
§ Miss VickersIs it possible to speed this up? It has been going on for about two years. The buildings are very fine, but they are detriorating considerably. We should have the Royal Marines back again in Plymouth, which has been their home for many generations.
§ Mr. Orr-EwingI acknowledge the value and dignity of the buildings. We hope to preserve the historic and architectural features. This modernisation is a very big undertaking and we cannot go ahead with it until plans are more detailed and finalised than they are at the moment.
