HC Deb 07 March 1961 vol 636 cc234-5
15. Mr. Chetwynd

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many men and women, respectively, are employed on the North Tees Industrial Estate; and how this compares with a comparable date in 1950, 1955, 1959 and 1960.

Mr. N. Macpherson

As the Answer contains a number of figures, I will with permission circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Chetwynd

Has there been any substantial increase in the numbers over this period? Is it intended to build any additional capacity on the estate?

Mr. Macpherson

There was an increase, but there has been a slight decline since 1955.

Following is the answer:

M. F. Total
December, 1950(i) 167 674 841
November, 1955 184 860 1,044
November, 1959 177 526 703
November, 1960 204 570 774
January, 1961(ii) 211 608 819

NOTES:

(i) The method of collecting returns differed in 1950 from that used more recently; there is no comparable figure for November, 1950.

(ii) Returns are made quarterly; November, 1960, is the date of the most recent return; the January figure is provisional.
