HC Deb 07 March 1961 vol 636 c246
31. Mr. Willis

asked the President of the Board of Trade what new industrial enterprises planned for Edinburgh and Midlothian are likely to be in production by 1962; what is the estimated increase in employment these new enterprises will produce; and what proportion of the new jobs provided will be for youths under 18 years of age.

Mr. N. Macpherson

Twenty-two, including fifteen expansions, to provide 1,417 jobs.

Mr. Willis

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the youth employment officer in Edinburgh forecasts a very high level of unemployment among boys for the next four years? Will the hon. Gentleman do something about the matter?

Mr. Macpherson

That high level of unemployment has not yet materialised, and we do not believe that there is any reason why it should.
