§ Order for Second Reading read.
§ 12.25 p.m.
§ Motion made, and Question proposed, That the Bill be now read a Second time.—[Mr. Renton.]
§ Mr. Frederick Willey (Sunderland, North)We welcome the Bill. In particular, had he been able to be with us, my hon. Friend the Member for Islington, East (Mr. Fletcher) would have especially welcomed it because he raised this matter some time ago, and he is delighted that the Government have taken this step.
§ The Joint Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. David Renton)I know that the hon. Member for Islington, East (Mr. Fletcher) particularly welcomes the Bill. The Bill is 616 needed. It deals with a short and simple point but it enables regulations which are so complicated to be consolidated.
§ Question put and agreed to.
§ Bill accordingly read a Second time.
§ Bill committed to a Committee of the whole House.—[Mr. G. Campbell.]
§ Committee upon Monday next.
