HC Deb 31 July 1961 vol 645 cc904-5
14. Mr. Albu

asked the Minister of Health whether he has made a decision on the request for a special capital grant for the rebuilding of the maternity wards at North Middlesex Hospital which are still housed in 1914–18 Army huts.

The Minister of Health (Mr. Enoch Powell)

Yes; this is among the centrally financed schemes which have been approved.

Mr. Albu

Can the Minister confirm that under the new decisions made by the Chancellor of the Exchequer there will be no delay in getting on with the rebuilding of these wards, which I think he will agree have been in existence under these conditions for far too long?

Mr. Powell

Yes. The plans are being prepared and I shall approve them as soon as I can.
