§ 5. Sir E. Erringtonasked the Minister of Aviation what replies he has given to those who have applied to use the whole or part of the former Blackbushe Airfield for flying purposes; and what is his policy in regard to the use of this ground for flying purposes.
§ Mr. RipponMy right hon. Friend has expressed his support for the proposed use of the western part of Blackbushe aerodrome as a private aerodrome for small, private and club aircraft.
§ Sir E. ErringtonDoes my hon. Friend realise that the reason for closing Blackbushe Airport was that it involves too much traffic in the same area as London Airport? Has he consulted any of the local authorities in regard to this matter?
§ Mr. RipponI do not think there will be any difficulty about the traffic. Before this airport can be opened, there has to be an application for planning permission. I understand that it has been made and is still under consideration.
§ 6. Sir E. Erringtonasked the Minister of Aviation when the site of Blackbushe Airfield will be cleared of debris generally; and, in particular, when the former terminal building will be demolished in accordance with the contract entered into by the purchaser thereof.
§ Mr. RipponWe are inviting tenders for the clearance of those parts of the site of Blackbushe Airfield owned by the Yateley Parish Council and the War Office and they should be cleared of debris by the end of the year. The owners of the remainder of the site are clearing their own areas. The future of the former terminal building depends on 903 the outcome of applications for planning permission for its retention.
§ Sir E. ErringtonDoes my hon. Friend realise how long this has been going on? Can there be no end to the really disgraceful conditions in which it is? I suggest that he ought to accelerate these applications for tender. I understood that the matter had been concluded, but to my amazement I found that it had not.
§ Mr. RipponI quite understand my hon. Friend's concern. The position is as I stated in a letter I wrote to him on 18th May. Tenders are now being invited. It will take about six weeks to let a contract. Clearance should take place about three months thereafter.
§ Sir E. ErringtonBut this is 31st July.
