HC Deb 27 July 1961 vol 645 cc597-8
37. Mr. Chetwynd

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many firms have shown an interest in the tenancy of the large empty Government-financed factory at Stockton-on-Tees since 18th April, 1961.

Mr. Maudling

Three firms have shown an interest as possible occupiers of this factory since 18th April last.

Mr. Chetwynd

Would the President of the Board of Trade say whether there is any real prospect of any firm taking over this very important factory, or is it to be a permanent memorial to the failure of this Government's planning?

Mr. Maudling

I cannot say whether particular inquirers will or will not take the factory, but I repeat that there are important firms interested.
