§ 31. Sir S. Storeyasked the Minister of Health if he has considered the recommendation of the jury at the inquest upon Clifford Daly, who died at Davyhulme Park Hospital from heart failure due to high temperature following a heat stroke, that serious thought should be given to installing ventilation equipment in the operating theatres; and whether he will now expedite the capital development of the ancillary service units at this hospitals, including the operating theatres.
§ Mr. PowellThe hospital management committee is considering urgently what action is called for.
§ Sir S. StoreyWhile thanking my right hon. Friend for the answer to the first part of my Question, may I ask him to answer the second part? Is he aware that the hospital management committee has been pressing the regional hospital board for certain improvements in the ancillary services of this hospital for the last twelve years, and that under present plans they are not to be commenced for ten years or completed for sixteen? Will he expedite them?
§ Mr. PowellThere is no need for any of the improvements which may be found necessary as a result of this to wait upon other capital expenditure.
§ Sir S. StoreyThat does not answer my Question. Will my right hon. Friend 20 expedite capital expenditure on the hospital improvements which have been awaited for a long time and which, under present plans, are not to be started for ten years?
§ Mr. PowellThese will have to take their place in the long-term plan which is under consideration at the moment. I have not arrived at my own decision as to the timing of these improvements.
