HC Deb 05 July 1961 vol 643 cc1577-8
Mr. Leburn

I beg to move, in page 5, line 19, to leave out for use for crofting purposes.

Mr. Deputy-Speaker

I think that it would be convenient to the House to discuss with this Amendment the Amendment in page 5, leave out lines 21 to 23.

Mr. Leburn

Yes, that will be convenient.

When Clause 6 was discussed in Committee it was suggested by hon. Members opposite that the reference in subsection (2) to "crafting purposes" might be deleted. This Clause contains the new basis valuing any permanent improvement erected by a crofter on his croft for which he is entitled to claim compensation from his landlord on termination of his tenancy. The words as a separate croft for use for crofting purposes were inserted in the Bill by Amendmen, for clarification.

I promised, however, to consider the suggestions made by hon. Members opposite when the Amendment to delete the words "for use for crofting purposes" was discussed, together with the related definition of "crofting purposes". We have reconsidered the matter and have reached the conclusion that the words in question and the definition are superfluous, and these two Amendments were accordingly put down to delete them.

Amendment agreed to.

Further Amendment made: In page 5, leave out lines 21 to 23.—[Mr. Leburn.]
