Mr. Oliverasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance what provision he proposes to make to deal with the case of women whose widowed mother's allowance ends a short time before their attaining the age of 50 years, many of whom by reason of age cannot obtain employment and resort to National Assistance.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterProvision is already made for widows who do not qualify for a widow's pension when their widow's allowance or widowed mother's allowance ends and who then have difficulty in finding work. Under the Family Allowances and National Insurance Act, 1956, such widows are eligible for unemployment benefit if unemployed, or sickness benefit if incapable of work.
