HC Deb 26 January 1961 vol 633 c330
33. Mr. Mapp

asked the President of the Board of Trade for what reasons his Department's industrial premises at Keb Lane, Oldham, remain unoccupied; and what efforts are being made to obtain a suitable tenancy.

Mr. Maudling

I understand my right hon. Friend the Minister of Aviation, whose Department owns these premises, has been negotiating with an intending purchaser but that, unfortunately, the negotiations have broken down. My Department, however, is now in discussion with three other firms who have shown an interest in the factory.

Mr. Mapp

While appreciating the right hon. Gentleman's Answer, may I ask him to bear in mind that the early letting of this factory will lead to two desirable consequences; first, greater employment in Oldham and, secondly, an intake of approximately a thousand people at Christmas-time described as unemployed or partially unemployed?

Mr. Maudling

We shall certainly let it as soon as we can.
