HC Deb 26 January 1961 vol 633 cc332-3
40. Mr. Spriggs

asked the Prime Minister if he is now prepared to propose a time and place for further meetings with Mr. Khrushchev for the purpose of discussing the Soviet Union's four-point disarmament proposals

The Prime Minister (Mr. Harold Macmillan)

I have nothing to add to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member for Newcastle-under-Lyme (Mr. Swingler) on 24th January.

Mr. Spriggs

Is the Prime Minister aware that there is still speculation in certain foreign countries about the position of the Soviet Union and the proposals made by its leaders in relation to disarmament and control? Is it not time that the British Prime Minister and his Government took the initiative and made certain proposals which are workable and acceptable by the other Powers?

The Prime Minister

As regards disarmament, we have made our proposals, and they stand. I hope that there will soon be an opportunity for getting to grips with this matter among all the Powers concerned.
