HC Deb 23 February 1961 vol 635 c767
10. Mr. Proudfoot

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what representations he has received from Commonwealth Governments as to the advantages that would accrue to Commonwealth trade from a change over to decimal coinage by the United Kingdom.

Mr. Sandys

None, Sir.

Mr. Proudfoot

Will my right hon. Friend approach his right hon. Friend the Prime Minister to make sure that the subject of decimal coinage will be raised at the Conference of Commonwealth Prime Ministers?

Mr. Sandys

I cannot give that assurance. I have always been attracted by the simplicity of the decimal system, but I understand that its introduction would be very complicated and involve considerable expense.
