HC Deb 07 February 1961 vol 634 cc203-4
35. Dr. Dickson Mabon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will consider taking steps to lengthen the two-month period for appeal against revaluation assessments issued on or before 31st May, 1961, in view of the large amount of work involved.

Mr. Maclay

I am prepared to consider this question when further information is available about the probable volume of appeals.

Dr. Mabon

In reconsidering this matter, I hope that the right hon. Gentleman will take into account the representations being made by various professional bodies, including the chartered surveyors, which are pointing out publicly, and I hope to him privately, that there will be a volume of appeal here over ground which is difficult for the ordinary citizen to participate in?

Mr. Maclay

I will watch this situation very carefully as soon as the information becomes available on which to base decisions.

Mr. McInnes

Will the Secretary of State consult the Scottish Valuation Advisory Council?

Mr. Maclay

Yes. I should be bound to consult the Council before I took any action
