27. Mr. B. Harrisonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is yet in a position to make a statement about the organisation in the United Kingdom of the Food and Agriculture Organisation's Freedom from Hunger Campaign.
§ Mr. SoamesYes. I am very glad to be able to inform the House that Earl De La Warr has agreed to be the chairman of the national committee. I am now considering the membership of the committee in consultation with him.
20 I hope that the public will give this committee its full support and contribute generously to the appeal for funds which will be made in due course. Her Majesty's Government will be making a donation of £30,000. This is additional to the £20,000 already given by Her Majesty's Government towards F.A.O.'s campaign costs at headquarters.
Mr. HarrisonThe appointment of the chairman is first-class. Can my right hon. Friend now say how long it will be before he expects to be able to set up the committee?
§ Mr. SoamesI could not give an exact time. It will be as soon as possible. We are getting on with it.
