§ 37. Mr. Turton
asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many per sons have been convicted in Kenya since 1st January, 1961, on the charge of assisting in the management of an un lawful society in connection with Mau Mau activities.
§ The Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies (Mr. Hugh Fraser)
Two, Sir, but in both cases the offence originated in 1960.
§ Mr. Turton
In view of the fact that there is evidence that the Kenya Freedom Party is being organised as a successor to Mau Mau, and that there is oath-taking in many parts of the country, is my hon. Friend satisfied that sufficient proceedings are being taken?
§ Mr. Fraser
Yes, Sir. I am convinced that the police and the Special Branch are taking every necessary step to deal with secret societies.
