HC Deb 19 April 1961 vol 638 cc1140-1
22. Mr. Gourlay

asked the Minister of Transport what changes in the general policy of the British Transport Commission regarding advertising are contemplated in view of his reorganisation proposals for the nationalised transport undertakings.

Mr. Marples

General policy regarding advertising is a matter for the British Transport Commission and its successor undertakings. It is for them to decide whether any changes are necessary.

Mr. Gourlay

Is the Minister aware that only this month a change has been made in the commercial advertising division of the Commission and that the former public relations adviser who retired at the end of March has been appointed chairman of a small board to administer commercial advertising in Britain? Will he give the House an assurance that the present work undertaken by this division in Scotland will not be transferred to London in view of the unemployment position in Scotland?

Mr. Marples

This is an internal matter of management for the B.T.C. but I will ask it to look into the hon. Gentleman's supplementary question.
