HC Deb 18 April 1961 vol 638 c942
2. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many tax-free industrial and trading estates he has instituted in Scotland; where they are situated; what is the extent of each; and what results have been achieved during each of the last ten years in attracting to the relevant areas industry and employment.

Mr. Brooman-White

None, Sir.

Mr. Hughes

Does the Joint Under-Secretary realise that under the administration of the present Secretary of State for Scotland, one striking feature is the unfair and unequal distribution of industry and employment in Scotland to the neglect of the North and particularly the North-East? Will he pay attention to the idea in my Question with a view to rectifying that situation?

Mr. Brooman-White

The hon. and learned Gentleman will be aware of the very extensive measures which have been taken to attract new industries to Scotland, and will join in the general hope Chat they will continue to be successful.
