HC Deb 18 April 1961 vol 638 c950
13. Mr. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what effect he estimates will result in respect of the distribution of the Exchequer equalisation grant from the revaluation of property in Scotland.

Mr. Maclay

I hope to be able to issue first estimates of the equalisation grant for 1961–62 to local authorities by the middle of May. I am afraid that I cannot make any statement meanwhile.

Mr. Ross

Surely the Secretary of State should be in a position to make an interim assessment of how local authorities will be affected. He will appreciate that this is an important matter from the point of view of municipal treasurers.

Mr. Maclay

I realise the importance of it. I have studied the matter, but I think that we must await the figures to which I have referred.
