HC Deb 26 October 1960 vol 627 cc2330-1
30. Mr. Jeger

asked the Minister of Transport when it is proposed to carry out the improvements at Leylands Corner, Hatfield, on the Sheffield-Grimsby trunk road.

Mr. Hay

The land required for this improvement is the subject of a draft compulsory purchase order to which the owner objected. A local inquiry has been held and my right hon. Friend is at present considering the Inspector's report.

Mr. Jeger

Does the hon. Gentleman realise that the compulsory purchase order was issued last year and that the inquiry to which he refers was held in February of this year? Is not a rather long time being taken, in view of the fact that the whole argument has been going on now for well over three years?

Mr. Hay

I agree with the hon. Gentleman that, on the face of it, it looks as though this has been going on for rather a long time. I promise him that I will look into it to see if a decision can be expedited.
