HC Deb 26 October 1960 vol 627 cc2348-9
45. Mr. Teeling

asked the Lord Privy Seal what further steps he now proposes to take to obtain compensation for the British-owned Anglo-Argentine Tramways.

Mr. Heath

The British Company's claim for compensation was rejected by the Court of First Instance in Buenos Aires in July last. An appeal has been lodged but the hearing of this has not yet begun. Meanwhile I understand that the company has indicated to the Argentine Government its readiness to negotiate an out-of-court settlement. Her Majesty's Ambassador in Buenos Aires will continue to give the company such help as may be possible and appropriate to bring this about.
