HC Deb 30 November 1960 vol 631 cc383-4
31. Commander Courtney

asked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty whether he will consider the granting of a uniform allowance to Admiralty civilian drivers, or, as an alternative, the granting of a free issue of uniform, in order to bring Admiralty practice in this respect into line with that of other Departments.

Mr. C. Ian Orr-Ewing

Admiralty drivers of passenger cars are already provided with a cap, dustcoat and overcoat, and with raincoats as necessary on loan. It has recently been decided to provide further articles of uniform clothing to regular drivers of certain classes of car.

Commander Courtney

Is my hon. Friend aware that his reply will be appreciated by this deserving body of men? Will he, as soon as practicable, let me have full details of the new equipment to be provided?

Mr. Orr-Ewing

Precise details are being worked out and I shall certainly let my hon. and gallant Friend have them.
