HC Deb 28 November 1960 vol 631 c18
33. Mr. G. Wilson

asked the Minister of Health what progress has been made with plans for the new hospital at St. Austell; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Powell

The plans originally submitted for a maternity unit have been substantially amended. A revised estimate of cost was received this month and the possibility of further economies is being urgently explored. I am anxious that building should start as soon as possible.

Mr. Wilson

Is my right hon. Friend aware that his last sentence will be much welcomed in St. Austell? Is he aware also that I asked about this as long ago as 16th February, but that the people in St. Austell have not seen any sign of progress towards this hospital, and that they are getting anxious?

Mr. Powell

I will keep an eye on this personally.
