§ Mr. SpeakerI have no knowledge of it. I must make some inquiries before I can allow the hon. Member to proceed. I have received no notice and I do not know anything about this.
§ Mr. HughesI presented it to the authorities both at the Journal Office and at the Table of the House, in accordance with the traditional manner.
§ Mr. SpeakerI regret that it had not reached me. It has now arrived, however.
§ Mr. HughesI wish to present the following Petition to the House:
To the Honourable the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled.The humble Petition of the undersigned citizens of Muirkirk in the County of Ayrshire sheweth that the decision of Her Majesty's Government to agree to the establishment of a Polaris submarine base in Scotland constitutes a possible danger to the people of this country and may involve them in all the perils and dangers of atomic war in which they and their children may be helpless victims.Wherefore your Petitioners pray that no such base be established in Britain.And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.This Petition is signed by over 200 citizens of Muirkirk.
