HC Deb 14 November 1960 vol 630 cc9-10
13. Mr. Lipton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when the Food Standards Committee will report on the composition of flour and bread which was referred to it in May, 1956.

Mr. Vane

My right hon. Friend has received the Food Standards Committee's Report. It will be published by the Stationery Office next Thursday afternoon.

Mr. Lipton

I thank the hon. Gentleman for achieving at last the result for which some of us have been waiting four years. Can he say why it has taken so long and whether we can expect some improvement in the not-too-distant future in the steamed concoction of doped flour commonly called bread, which is more like steamed cotton wool?

Mr. Vane

The Report has taken longer to prepare than was at first thought because it is a very difficult subject and the Report is, in fact, extremely comprehensive. As to the detail, I think that the hon. Gentleman had better contain himself for another two days, and then he can read the Report in full.
