§ 30. Mr. Prenticeasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance if he will give an estimate of the proportion of the insured population who will be paying a higher National Insurance contribution as from April, 1961.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterAbout 80 per cent.
§ Mr. PrenticeDoes the Minister recall the Conservative Central Office leaflet entitled, "A Sound Scheme. Lower Paid Workers Pay Less"? Is it not the position that the great majority of the workers-80 per cent. he has just told us—will pay more, including many of the lower-paid, and that even the small minority who pay less will be paying only 2d. less from April? What has become of the electoral promises of the Conservatives to the electors?
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThe hon. Member is aware that benefits are being increased.
