HC Deb 10 November 1960 vol 629 cc1213-4
35. Captain Pilkington

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give a list of the current subsidies being paid from the Exchequer.

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Sir Edward Boyle)

As the Answer contains a number of figures, I will, with permission, circulate the information in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Captain Pilkington

Will my hon. Friend at least say that the total figure has increased, is increasing and ought to be decreased?

Sir E. Boyle

I would rather not commit myself to such an inclusive judgment at present.

Following is the information:

SUBSIDIES BY THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT (1960–61 ESTIMATES)
£ million
Agriculture, fisheries and forestry 255
Housing 94
Transport and communications 112
Other industry and trade 1
Total £462
