HC Deb 30 May 1960 vol 624 c990
33. Mr. Darling

asked the Minister of Power what inquiries have been made by his inspectors into the reasons why a fan belt installed underground at Auchengeich colliery, Lanarkshire, and which subsequently caught fire with consequent loss of life, did not conform to British Standard 2066, and was not of the quality and standard ordered by the National Coal Board as necessary to ensure safety.

Mr. George

The circumstances in which the belt was delivered to Auchengeich Colliery were fully investigated at the public inquiry, and are described in the Chief Inspector's report on the tragedy. As the matter may become the subject of court proceedings, my right hon. Friend considers that it would be improper for him to make any further comment.
