HC Deb 16 May 1960 vol 623 c904
19. Mr. Warbey

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what action Her Majesty's Government will take to press for the admission of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations at the next meeting of the General Assembly, in view of the fact that it is now the declared policy of the People's Republic not to take part in any disarmament conference until they are so admitted.

Mr. Profumo

I have at present nothing to add to what was said about Chinese participation in disarmament conferences by my right hon. and learned Friend in the debate in this House on 12th May.

Mr. Warbey

The Minister will recall that in last week's foreign affairs debate the view was widely expressed on all sides that it was extremely urgent to push for the entry of China into all the international discussions. Will not the Government go so far as to say that it is their intention to press for the entry of China into the United Nations this year?

Mr. Profumo

No, I certainly cannot go further than the Answer I have given.
