HC Deb 12 May 1960 vol 623 c596
7. Sir J. Smyth

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is satisfied that food and drugs authorities are doing all they can to enforce the Soft Drinks Order; and what information he has regarding recent prosecutions.

Mr. John Hare

I have no reason to suppose that food and drugs authorities are not doing all they can to enforce the Soft Drinks Order. There was recently a successful prosecution by the Borough of Beckenham.

Sir J. Smyth

Will my right hon. Friend give an assurance that he and his right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade and his right hon. and learned Friend the Minister of Health will continue to use their endeavours to see that adulterated orange juice is not imported into this country, is not supplied to our hospitals, and is not put on sale to the public?

Mr. Hare

We are using all the powers we can to see that what my hon. and gallant Friend wants to avoid does not in fact happen. During the last year, 3,112 samples of soft drinks were taken.
